2018 S-Class: More Technology, More Luxury

Every model, from the standard S450 to the Mercedes-Maybach S650 will see a host of revisions and improvements.

The facelifted S-Class will come with revised engines, plusher interiors with updated technology, new designs for the front and rear bumpers, as well as updated headlights and tail lights.

The W222 Facelift will offer a three-spoke sports steering wheel, three new upholstery offerings, and an updated infotainment system with a single-piece glass display. These are great additions that should make the vehicle much more linear on the inside. The Three Spoke steering wheel on the AMG models is truly a nice touch.

The namenculture is revised as well. The new S450 gets a new 3.0-liter V6 that produces 362 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, while the S560 offers up a new 4.0-liter V8 with a stout 463 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. The new V8 gets cylinder deactivation and a hot “V” layout that enables the turbo to be placed in the middle of the cylinder banks.

The AMG models have some refreshed mechanicals as well. The S65 AMG is continued with the 6.0-liter V12 that is currently offered, producing 621 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque. The S63 replaces last year’s 5.5-liter V8 with the more powerful 4.0-liter V8. The S63’s 4.0-liter produces 603 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to all wheels through a new nine-speed automatic and a revised Mercedes’ 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system. The S63 and S65 also receive upgraded brakes, new wheel designs, a new exhaust system, adaptive sport seats, and performance apps for the infotainment system.

2018 Mercedes-Benz E63S AMG – THE HAMMER RETURNS

Mercedes Has a New 603 HP Beast!

AMG continues the tradition of offering a fully capable sports sedan with the E63 S AMG. The S variant gets to 60 MPH from 0 in a staggering 3.3 seconds. It’s also the first AMG model to offer the new nine-speed Speedshift MCT transmission. The E63 also has full air suspension at all four corners.

Additionally, the E63 S has AMG’s new 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system. This drive-train has a race mode that decouples the front differential to allow the driver to really have fun close to the limit. It will re-couple if the system senses imminent danger. The torque split constantly changes based on condition and mode the car is in, while a limited-slip differential, mechanical in the E63 and electronic in the E63S, handles torque vectoring left to right.

Arriving in summer 2017, we are super excited to see this ultimate driver’s sedan in person. Tell us what you think!

Mercedes To Increase Vehicle Production

Demand for models such as the 2014 S-Class, GLK, and C-Class has been so strong that Mercedes is having a hard time keeping up with production. Mercedes announced a new plan to boost production, as it expects to set an all-time production record of more than 1.49 million vehicles globally.

With the help of China, the new W222 S-Class has had 7,617 global sales. Mercedes is extending the shift hours of it’s S-Class plant at Sindelfingen, Germany to keep pace. The GLK and C-Class Plant in Bremen, Germany began special shifts last month, that will increase production to the end of this month.

This looks to be a very promising time for the brand. New models, a recovering economy, and strong new vehicle demand is setting the record breaking pace for production.GLA bird's eye view

2014 S63 AMG – 0 to 60 MPH in 3.9 Seconds

s63 AMG 4Matic Brakes

577 Horsepower will sit underneath the hood of the new generation W222 S63 AMG. Along with 664 pound feet of torque, the newly reworked M157 5.5L V8 BI-Turbo engine from AMG uses a air-to-water intercooler and direct injection to exact as much power from the mill as possible. The 577 horsepower figure helps to achieve the 7.9 lbs/hp power-to-weight ratio that will ensure this S63 will be rocket-ship fast.

Weight savings was also a crucial engineering aspect in designing the W222 AMG models. The complete outer skin of the S63 is made of aluminum. A unique, light-weight and high performance two-piece braking system, along with lightweight forged wheels and LI-ON battery aid in the 200 pound weight loss compared to the previous W221 generation S63. The spare wheel recess is made of carbon fiber, which saves 9 pounds versus constructing the peice using a metal material. Acceleration is blistering, at 3.9 seconds to reach 60 MPH, while top speed is limited to 186 MPH.

Embracing AWD, AMG has fitted the new S63 with their performance version of 4Matic, ensuring all of the power produced hits the ground efficiently. In S63 guise, the 4matic system will normally send 67% of the engine’s power to the rear wheels. This will help to ensure that the system retains a rear-wheel drive feel, while offering prodigious grip at all times. The AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission has three modes: C (efficiency), S (Sport), and M (Manual). In the S and M modes, the AMG sports exhaust systems opens up two flaps in the rear silencers to ensure the engine sounds brilliant.

Truly a superb machine, the new W222 S63 AMG promises to have superior build quality, world-class performance, and extreme luxury. All mated to a interior and exterior that have been given the AMG treatment to enhance the visual appeal of this special AMG model.
