Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe Fastback Revealed

The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door is available in 3 versions

2019-mercedes-amg-gt4-042-1The wait is finally over, you can now have a AMG-GT with 4 doors and 4 seats. Similar to the Porsche Panamera, the AMG-GT promises sports car like performance with room for the family. The AMG-GT 4 Door comes in 3 variants: AMG GT 63 S with the fire-breathing 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 making 630 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque, the AMG GT 63 with the same engine, albeit detuned to 577 hp and 533 lb-ft, and the new 3.0L, turbocharged inline six-cylinder AMG GT 53. The Inline six makes 429 hp and 384 lb-ft, aided by an EQ Boost electric motor.

All variants have rear-biased 4Matic, while the 8 cylinder cars have cylinder deactivation and friction reducing bearings in the turbos. The six cylinder cars get silver calipers, the “base” V8 gets red calipers, and the V8 S gets yellow calipers. Every AMG-GT 4 Door gets AirPanel louvers behind the grille that open and close to promote cooling and efficiency, LED headlights and taillights, and an active rear spoiler.

The top model AMG GT 63 S has standard active engine mounts, an electronically controlled locking rear differential, and a rear-wheel drive only Drift Mode. It accellerates from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 3.1 seconds, with a top speed of 195 mph. The non S takes 3.3 seconds to 60MPH, and top speed maxes out at 193 mph. Both use the AMG MCT nine-speed with a wet clutch, AMG’s dynamic air ride suspension, and rear-wheel steering.

The inline-six AMG GT 53 takes 4.4 seconds to reach 60 mph, with a top speed of 174 mph. It uses AMG’s TCT nine-speed automatic with a torque converter, and has adjustable dampers with steel coil springs. With a 48-volt battery, the EQ boost unit which is mounted between the engine and transmission is responsible for 21 hp and 184 lb-ft of the inline six output figures.

A brand-new AMG Performance Steering Wheel features Touch Control pads that manage items the infotainment system, a total of six different drive programs, and three agility programs within the drive modes. There’s an optional steering wheel that attaches two illuminated, color display buttons to either side of the wheel center. These control functions like the drive programs and exhaust tone.

The AMG GT 63 S and GT 63 go on sale in early 2019, while the GT 53 follows soon after in mid-2019.
