Inline Six Cylinder Turbo Hybrid – Meet the E53 AMG Family

The new engine and mild hybrid system will be featured in the CLS53 AMG and E53 AMG Coupe and Cabriolet

The AMG massages the new 3.0-liter inline-six found in the CLS450. The non-AMG variant makes 362 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, the AMG massaging brings the engine to life with 429 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque. The engine is turbocharged and has a electric auxiliary compressor. The system’s EQ Boost starter-alternator temporarily endows the engine an additional 21 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. It’s fitted between the engine and AMG’s Speedshift nine-speed transmission with power routed to the 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system. Mercedes claims this combination allows the AMG CLS53 to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds.

The 53 AMG has twin-blade silver-chrome grille,with a black lattice background. In addition, the 53 also has an A-wing front bumper with silver-chrome front splitter, Air intakes that feature horizontal hyper-chrome fins, and AMG side sills. There’s an aggressive AMG spec rear diffuser and exhaust tips, and the deck lip installed can be optioned in carbon fiber. A CLS 53 has 19 inch wheels standard, while 20-inch wheels are also an option.
