Mercedes-Benz Expands V12 Engine Capacity

Mercedes has opened up a new engine plant in Mannheim, Germany to deal to expand V12 engine supply.

Demand for Mercedes-Benz V12 AMG vehicles is so strong that the car maker has expanded production by transferring V12 production to a utilized factory. Located in Mannheim, Germany the plant will allow Mercedes to expand V12 engine capacity to ensure sufficient supply. The V12 engines are used in many of its high end AMG models. As before, the “one man, one engine” philosophy remains, ensuring one technician builds an engine from beginning to end.

According to the Mercedes press release: “Due to strong demand for its high-performance automobiles, Mercedes-AMG is to start the assembly of its 12-cylinder engines in a new location at Daimler’s site in Mannheim. The traditional AMG “one man, one engine” philosophy continues to hold true: each powerful AMG engine will be built completely by hand by just one engine fitter. The employees who currently assemble 12-cylinder engines at the AMG headquarters in Affalterbach will be shifted to the eight-cylinder engine lines.

Mercedes-AMG will use available capacities at the Daimler site in Mannheim to expand its engine production: assembly of the V12 biturbo engines will start there in February 2016. “Due to the strong demand for our automobiles, our production capacities at the Affalterbach engine production facility are fully utilised,” said Tobias Moers, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH. “Supplying our customers as fast as possible is highly important to us. We do not have any possibilities for expansion in Affalterbach at present, so we have decided to transfer the assembly of the 12-cylinder engines to the Daimler site in Mannheim.”

2017 R231 SL Roadster – New Look!

The 2017 SL Roadster gets a facelift that truly makes it look stunning!2017-mercedes-amg-sl65

Mercedes has redesigned the look of their SL Roadster and it looks amazing! The new face has the corporate MB headlights (full LED units), albeit more sweep back and aggressive. The combined efforts make the new face look much more muscular and youthful than before. The grille is also different, being wider from the bottom than the top, accounting for a more modern look that looks much more athletic. The overall effect is very nice, creating a beautiful roadster.

There is also a power boost as well. The SL400 becomes the SL450, adding an additional 33 horsepower and 15 Ft. Lbs. torque for a total of 362 and 369, respectively. The transmission changes as well, going from 7 speeds to 9 speeds (9G-Tronic).

Brabus displays their 700 BHP Coupe in Dubaib15aa811-1

Like the Rocket 900 Desert Gold Edition, the Brabus 700 Coupe packs a lot of power. 690 HP to be exact. That’s 114 more horsepower than the already quick GLE 63 S rated at 576 BHP. Torque also gets a jump from GLE 63 S to a tree stump pulling 708 ft. lbs. Additionally, you can spec your Coupe to a Brabus 850 and get even more power – 838 horsepower and an amazing 1,069 lb-ft for a 3.8-second 0-62 sprint and a 200-mph top speed. For both tunes, Brabus modifies the air intake system, charge-air pipes for the intercooler and turbo, engine control unit, and exhaust system, along with the turbo spools.

Additionally, as usual, they offer a full array of wheels, exhaust systems, brakes, carbon bits, and spoilers for your GLE coupe as well. Don’t forget about the amazing interior, you can spec to your style as well. Here, we have an usual azure blue quilted leather motif.

According to Brabus press release,

BRABUS 700 Coupe
515 kW / 700 HP, 960 Nm, 300 km/h top speed, carbon and 23-inch forged wheels for the brand-new Mercedes GLE 63 S Coupe.

This high-performance SUV capable of reaching a top speed of 300 km/h (186 mph) includes a 5.5-liter twin-turbo engine uprated to 515 kW / 700 HP (690 bhp) and 960 Nm (708 lb-ft), sporty carbon aerodynamic-enhancement components and 23-inch high-tech forged king-sized wheels.

The BRABUS fine leather interior with quilted azure-blue seats and door panel elements creates an especially luxurious atmosphere.

The new B63S – 700 performance kit from BRABUS significantly boosts the power and torque of the 5.5-liter twin-turbo engine in the GLE 63 S, which in standard specification is rated at 430 kW / 585 HP (576 bhp). Producing an additional 85 kW / 115 HP (114 bhp) necessitates numerous modifications to the peripherals of the turbocharged eight-cylinder four-valve engine. While the intake and charge-air pipes immediately attract attention due to their BRABUS Gold Heat Reflection sheathing, other important details of the conversion remain hidden from view. These include the two BRABUS special turbochargers with larger compressor unit, which produce a higher boost pressure than the production turbos.

The standard emission control system is replaced with an exhaust system featuring free-flow metal catalysts and down pipes with a diameter of 75 millimeters (3 in). In addition, a BRABUS stainless-steel sports exhaust system with actively controlled butterfly valve is available for all GLE 63 models. It gives drivers the option of choosing between a subtle “Coming Home” mode and a markedly sporty exhaust note at the touch of a button on the steering wheel.

The interplay of all high-performance components was perfectly coordinated with new mapping for ignition and injection by the BRABUS engine and electronics engineers using state-of-the-art test benches and test runs on public roads and racetracks. The result is an optimal blend of outstanding performance and impeccable stability.”

Yes, there’s a reason the Brabus 900 Desert Gold Edition has the numerals 900 in its name – it packs 900 horsepower. 900! It also has 1106 foot pounds of torque going directly to the rear wheels only. The 4matic all-wheel-drive system cannot handle this much power. Showcased earlier in Geneva, the Brabus Rocket 900 has special aero bits, a bespoke interior treatment, upgraded engine and exhaust, and many other tweaks to create the ultimate luxury supercar. This Desert Gold Edition though, ups the game with a special gold and black theme, that’s also carried over to the interior.
