First Look: 2014 Mercedes V Class

Mercedes unveiled the 2014 V Class for its world premier in Munich, Germany. Designed to replace the Viano model currently for sale, the V Class has special touches to ensure it is a MPV van you’d love to own. The bold grille, LED enhanced headlights, swooping body work, and luxurious interior help to firmly establish the V Class as fierce competitor in this category.  Up to 8 passengers can ride in the V Class, aided by the fact that the MPV can be had in many different configurations to suit any buyer.

Three 2.1L 4 cyl engine choices are available: The V 200, with 136 horsepower and 243 pound-feet of torque, V 220 with 163 hp and 280 lb-ft, and V 250 that offers 190 hp and 325 lb-ft. V250 has as much pulling power as the previous V6 turbodiesel while using 28 percent less fuel.

2014 CLA45 AMG Review

2014 CLA45 AMG

355 Horsepower. All Wheel Drive. 322 Ft. Lbs. of Torque. Turbo engine. 31 MPG Freeway. Impressive statistics, especially for the entry level AMG model in the 2014 Mercedes-Benz USA lineup, dubbed the CLA45 AMG. This 4 door coupe is a legitimate pocket-rocket – accelerating to 60 MPH in under 4.5 Seconds. The car comes equipped with a 7-speed Speed-Shift DCT transmission with paddle shifters. Even though it weighs roughly 3500 pounds, this is one quick car.

To drive the wheels, engineers at MB have gone with AWD for the AMG version. In normal driving, most of the power is transferred to the front wheels. As it should, since the car is based on a FWD architecture. However, when cornering the aggressive active AMG Performance 4Matic torque-vectoring all-wheel drive and three-stage ESP quickly sends power to the rear wheels, adding huge traction and confidence for the driver.

Driving the car is a nice experience. Mercedes claims that the 2.0L used in the CLA45 AMG is the highest output 4 cylinder mass produced engine available. This engine makes extreme power, especially once the 26.1 pounds of boost is generated by the Honeywell turbocharger. If you’ve checked the box for the Driver’s Package and have found yourself on a empty track, the car will go 167 MPH. Impressive.

Pricing starts at $47,450, but can escalate to almost $70,000 if you check all of the option boxes. We would recommend going for a near base CLA at around $50,000. It’s good value for the performance this machine offers at that price point.

All in all, this is one nice driving, performance oriented AMG model.

2015 GLA45 AMG

2015 GLA45 AMG – 0-60 MPH in 4.8 Seconds

Mercedes has released the official images and specifications on the 2015 GLA45 AMG Crossover. Equipped with a 2.0L turbocharged, 4 cylinder engine and 7 speed Dual-Clutch transmission with All Wheel Drive, the new performance crossover will hit 60 MPH in only 4.8 seconds.

With 355 HP and 322 Lbs. Ft. Torque, the GLA45 AMG has three settings: Comfort, Sport, and Manual. There is also a Race Start function for truly spirited drivers. Normally, the All-Wheel-Drive system is powering the front wheels, but can send up to 50% of the engine’s power to the rear wheels.

You can choose from sports exhaust and suspension, two different 20 inch wheel designs to upgrade from the 19″ standard wheels, and a host of options from Mercedes. Additionally, there will also be a Edition One version, which will include the Aero package, wheel hub covers that mimic the look central lock wheels, red racing stripes, and the Night package.

All in all, this is one seriously nice performance crossover machine. Exactly what the market in the USA was missing.
