Brand New 2015 Mercedes Benz GLA Crossover

Brand New 2015 Mercedes Benz GLA-Class Crossover

Many people state that great things come in small packages. Enter the 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLA. Designed to be the smallest Crossover/SUV available from the brand, it is certain to draw a lot of attention. Thankfully, we can say that most of that attention will be positive. The GLA-Class looks handsome from all angles, and has a interior similar to what’s been seen in the A-Class and CLA-Class.

Shod with the standard 18-inch wheels, the GLA has a more flowing look than its larger sibling, the GLK. The design is mix of SUV and swoopy couple, in an effort to create a stylish end product. At 173.9 inches long and 58.8 inches tall, the GLA is roughly 4 inches smaller and about 8 inches lower than the GLK. The front end features a prominent grille with a Mercedes-Benz center star, up-swept headlights, and the now signature hood vent humps. The side profile is coupe-like in appearance, think CLA or CLS style. The rear end is standard crossover sport styling with a nice hatch that will make loading easy. There isn’t much to dislike, the overall style and look says premium without trying too hard.

The drive-train consists of what we know is available in the CLA, the 2.0L turbocharged 4 cylinder mated to the seven-speed dual-clutch auto-manual transmission. Producing 208 horsepower, and 258 Ft. Lbs. of Torque, it helps the GLA accelerate from 0 to 60 MPG in about 6.4 seconds. Start/Stop Functionality with an ECO mode is standard to help fuel efficiency. Top speed is 145 MPH. The GLA can be had with front wheel drive, or Mercedes’ 4Matic all-wheel-drive.

The interior features many similar styling cues that are found in the CLA 4 door coupe. The round center vents are there, along with the center infotainment stack. The dual-zone climate control is located below the center stack. The navigation screen is still a separate screen on top of the center stack vents on the dash. Attention Assist (drowsy driver detection system), a radar-based collision prevention assist system, and the brake assist system are some of the standard features. Collision Prevention Assist Plus, blind spot and lane keeping assist systems, and Parktronic With Park Assist auto parking device are newly available options. The materials look nice and interior on the whole is a wonderful place to spend time.

The GLA promises to be a wonderful offering in the entry level, premium small crossover market. Competing with the Audi Q3 and BMW X1, it sets itself aside by offering nice styling, lots of nice features, a nice interior, and hopefully competitive pricing.

Mercedes-Benz GLA Spy Shots!

Upcoming Mercedes GLA Crossover

Mercedes- Benz USA CEO Steve Cannon tweeted this image of the upcoming GLA compact crossover vehicle. Based on the A-Class and CLA, the new crossover is slated to compete with the BMW X1 and Audi Q3.

The GLA’s styling is pretty much revealed in the image. It sports a 2 bar grille with middle Mercedes-Benz emblem, up-swept headlights, a sloping roof, and smooth side profile. The overall design of the GLA should be pretty sleek once fully revealed to the public. It is not a dramatic depart from many new Mercedes models, and keeps the corporate MB look.

Inside, expect to find an interior similar to the CLA. It has been dressed with some additional touches that are found in the GLK to enhance the look and satisfy luxury car shoppers.

Expect the price to fall in line with the CLA, albeit a bit more expensive. Starting price should be around $31,000 US. Front wheel drive and 4Matic variants will be available. The base engine will likely be the 2.0L Turbo mill found in the CLA. The GLA45 AMG should be available as well, with around 355 Horsepower and 4Matic all-wheel-drive.

Mercedes-AMG GmbH and Aston Martin to Form Technical Partnership

Mercedes-Benz’s AMG division and Aston Martin have signed a “letter of agreement” which will allow both parties to partake in a Technical Partnership agreement.

Aston Martin will gain access to Mercedes-AMG GmbH and Mercedes-Benz Cars’ resources, enabling them to design and manufacture a range of bespoke performance engines, suitable for their upcoming models. The Technical Partnership will support Aston Martin’s future goals of developing cutting-edge, technology rich vehicles that focus on the traditions of the century old automaker.

Daimler AG will receive up to a five percent, non-voting stake of Aston Martin, depending on how far the agreement between the two companies reaches. The companies will allow their engineering teams to work together to ensure the Technical Partnership is implemented smoothly.

Both parties have indicated that this partnership will be a win-win for both companies. No further details are available at this time.

A Rare Find: R129 SL73 AMG – 525 BHP

Silver SL73 AMG with Glass Roof

What do the R129 SL Roadster and the Pagani Zonda super car have in common? The engine! The M120 V12 was used in a limited run of 85 R129 SL73 AMG roadsters. With 7.3 Litres of displacement and 525 BHP, it was the most powerful engine ever put into a SL Roadster at the time.

The massive horsepower and 552 Ft. Lbs. of torque helped the SL73 AMG to accelerate from 0-60 MPH in an estimated 4.8 seconds. Additionally, the brakes and suspension were also given improved components. the The SL73 offered Ferrari levels of performance from a rather heavy Mercedes-Benz roadster.

A rare sight, the SL73 AMG represents the classic Mercedes-Benz style with enormous amounts of power and torque.
